Is a herbaceous plant belonging to the family Caryophyllaceae, widespread in the Mediterranean regions.1 It is spontaneous in the flora of the Iberian peninsula. In its typical form is a cespitosa plant, 1 with numerous stems up to 1 m in height. Its leaves are linear, narrow, opposite and sheathing, wider basal than caulinares. Each stem forms a terminal flower.1 Its flowers are showy, pedunculated in panicle or top lax, sometimes solitary, with more or less jagged edges.

Perennial woody base, reach a height between 45 and 60 cm. Flowering takes place most of the year. Usually they are flowers of strong fragrance.


 

Carnations live many years without much care. It does not need regular irrigations except in cases of extreme heat or prolonged drought. Of course, with newly planted carnations themselves debts perform regular irrigations to favor the rooting of the plant. In summer it is also advisable to favor summer flowering.
